Small Changes & New Materials

Greetings dear folks

This update is a little of a mixed bag. There is a couple small changes to Mixed Adventures itself, mostly corrections here and there (please see the files in the section below).

But there are some new nifty playmaterials. With them also comes a good deal of changes to the creatures from Dungeon World (see below).

For the play materials, I hope they are easy to use and helpful. Otherwise, so feedback would be very welcome.

NEW MATERIALS

In an attempt to make online play easier, I have created a google Character Keeper and a Gamemaster Google Sheet. The layout is based on another Dungeon World sheet by Wacey Stavinoha.

The character keeper has everything needed to keep track of the party and help the game flow. Player moves, clocks, NPC blocks, etc.

The GM Sheet contains a ton of material to help the GM. Fronts, GM moves, Combat tracker, creature creator, search function for creatures and magical items and aid to create steadings, followers and treasures. And with the sheet comes a whole bunch of creatures and items from Dungeon World and homebrewed.

Submissions

I will be expanding the creature and item database with time. But to help expand them, people are welcome to submit their own or others creations. Both creatures and items. If you want to be credited, just let me know which name you want to use and if you want me to link to a specific site.

RULES FOR SUBMISSIONS:

  • Please post submissions on the Mixed Adventure Itch.io forum. This will make it easier to keep track of them, and for others to see what already has been suggested. Maybe even give some feedback.
  • They must follow the same general structure/setup/layout of Dungeon World (no walls of text, no more than 5 tags, etc.)
  • If it is an "evil race" with a culture and history, describe or give an idea WHY another culture would see them as evil. Something besides of just saying they are evil, cruel or vile. Doing so through their culture is a good starting point.
  • Creatures use these settings: Cities and Civility, Crushing Waters, Dark Woods, Deep Caverns, Foul Swamps, Frozen Wastes, High Peaks & Sky, Open Hills & Plains, Planar Realms, Ruined Remains, Twisted Experiments, Tribes and Traditions, Undead Legions.
  • Sort the items by these types: Armor, Clothing, Consumable, Instrument, Jewelry, Shield, Wand/Staff, Weapon, Wondrous Item.
  • Nothing too vulgar. This game could still be played by kids.
  • If the item is converted from somewhere else/made by someone else, let me know so they also can be credited.
  • If you want to use an image, please provide the name of the artist and a link to their work.
  • No AI generated images.

GM CHANGES

There is only a few changes for the, mostly corrections on the GM reference sheet and some changes to how tagging works for creatures.

  • Changed the creature tag for having no physical form to "Insubstantial" instead of "Spirit"
  • The Terrifying guideline for creature creation said "+move" when it should have been "+quality".
  • Added the "Construct" tag to the creature option "Made by someone".
  • Changed the option "It harms by tricks or other means", to "Its primary danger isn’t wounds"
  • The steading tags, "Dwarven" and "Elven", have been replaced by "Majority", "Unwelcoming" and "Welcoming", depending on the fictional reasoning for the tag (diversity, racisme, isolationists, racial majority, etc.)
  • I realized I had made an error when setting up the Dungeon Crawl sheet: There should have been an alertness clock (6 ticks) along with a progress clock that uses 3, 5, 7 and 10 ticks.

PLAYBOOK CHANGES

Many of these changes are corrections I missed, like repeated Looks. But also some errors.

  • Barbarian
    • The hair look was the same as the Druid's, so have been changed to Body, describing how the world sees their form.
  • Fighter
    • Added a look to Scars: Missing bits.
    • There was an error in the Gears section for provisions, were they only had 3 Uses (should have 4 +
  • Paladin
    • Hair look was the same as for the fighter, so have been changed to "Voice" with inspiration from Stonetop.
    • Changed the "Body" looks to "Aura", with some changes based on Homebrew World.
    • Changed the "Token of noble's favor" in Gear, to "Someones lost item" to make the paladin more unique, but still lead to some potential story.
  • Ranger
    • Change a clothing Look from "Dark" to "Road-worn", since dark wasn't that interesting a description, and could fall under camouflaged.
    • Hair look was the same as fighter, so have been changed to "Gait", with options to determine the characters manner of moving.
    • The Animal Companions text was a mess and have been fixed.
    • There was a gramma error in the move "Through Thick and Thin" and also reworded it a little.
  • Thief
    • Removed the finesse tag from the rapier. Do Battle now mentions that Agility can be used with weapons that are light.
  • Wizard
    • reworded and added an extra choice to clothing Looks.
    • Replaced the Hair look with Age, inspired by Homebrew World.

GENERAL CREATURE CHANGES
  • Changed the Monster Setting categories which very inconsistent with what meant what, and which creatures fitted into them. Also changed it to be "Creature Setting" instead, since not all of the beings are "monsters".
  • Added Five new settings: Crushing Waters, High Peaks & Sky, Frozen Wastes, Open Hills & Plains, Scorching Deserts
  • Renamed People of the Realm, Cavern Dwellers, Denizens of the Swamp, Planar Powers, The Lower Dephts, Ravenous Hordes.
    • The two above changes have been added to the main document.
  • Instead of a "b" or "w" (best and worst) infront of the damage die, it now says "a" or "d" (advantage & disadvantage)
  • Many of the "evil" civilized races have gotten their description reworked to better reflect WHY other cultures sees them as evil. And actually describes the creature in question. Not just the race. Looking at you Deep Elves.
  • Removed the Planar tag. The creatures from other planes, have been categorized coming from Planar Realms. So adding the tag would just be double tagging. If people want it back, I would then also need to make a Undead tag for the Legions of the Undead.
  • Added a secondary setting to better help the GM find creatures that could live in a specific area.

NEW CREATURES

A good handful of new creatures have been added, either from the Dungeon World Codex or my own creation. Some of those from the Codex may have been changed slightly. But I have credited the creators and added a link so you can check the original.

SPECIFIC CREATURE CHANGES

Most of the changes to the core beasties, are to their weapon tags which didn't fit. Like having melee range when using a claw/bite attack. Some have also gotten their descriptions changed or rewritten to make it more interesting, and to give a better idea of why someone would see deep elves as evil due to their culture, rather than them being born evil.
